The Distance Between What We Have and What We Want

2005-06

The Distance Between What We Have and What We Want is an installation project by Tavares Strachan centering ice from the North Pole. In March of 2005, Strachan made an eight-day trip to the Alaskan Arctic in search of a frozen river. In a few days, a river was found a few hundred miles below the Arctic Circle. With the help of a skilled team, a 4.5-ton block of ice was excavated and stored in preparation for its shipment to The Bahamas in July of 2006. This was the beginning of the project titled The Distance Between What We Have and What We Want.
